Contraindications/CautionsSaffron well tolerated in clinical trials.Antidiabetes drugsTheoretically, concomitant use of saffron with antidiabetic drugs may increase the risk of hypoglycemia.Antihypertensive drugsTheoretically, concomitant use of saffron with antihypertensive drugs may increase the risk of hypotension.Calcium channel blockersTheoretically, concomitant use of saffron with calcium channel blockers may cause additive vasodilatory effects. CNS depressantsConcomitant use of saffron with CNS depressants may have an additive effect. Cytochrome P450 1a2 (Cyp1a2) substratesIn men, saffron has been shown to inhibit the activity of cytochromes P450. Theoretically, it may result in decreased drug elimination, and increase serum levels of drugs metabolised by P450 pathway.Always read the label. If symptoms persist, talk to your healthcare professional. Vitamin and mineral supplements should not replace a balanced diet.
