Potassium chloride is for mineral supplementation.
Combines potassium chloride and iron phosphate in a single tablet. When prescribed by a healthcare professional P.C.I.P. is generally well tolerated at the recommended dose and may be prescribed for infants, children, pregnant and lactating women, and the elderly. The easy-to-swallow tablet can be halved or crushed to facilitate low-dose prescribing for infants and children.Prescribing InformationChloride helps maintain hydration and fluid balance. With potassium, it is required for gastric acid production. Iron is essential for immunity and is a structural component of haemoglobin. Phosphate forms part of ferritin.Immunity: Iron is involved in immunity, and severe iron deficiency may lead to reduced resistance to infection. In the Mineral Therapy tradition, iron phosphate is often prescribed with potassium chloride.Fluid balance: Potassium and chloride are involved in the regulation of water balance. Potassium acts with extracellular sodium to maintain normal osmotic pressure and influences the ability of the kidney to correct imbalances with the excretion process. The status of chloride channels influences the uptake or loss of water by cells, and hence the regulation of cell volume.Haematology: Due to its role as a component of haemoglobin, iron plays a vital role in the structure and function of healthy blood. In the body, iron is found most commonly associated with phosphate, the main anion for energy storage and release. Phosphate acts as a regulator of iron phosphate absorption, and forms part of ferritin, the iron storage complex. It is also incorporated into 2,3 diphosphoglycerate (2,3 DPG, a compound in red blood cells that regulates oxygen release by haemoglobin), and consequently plays an integral role in energy production.Gastrointestinal function: Potassium and chloride are both essential for the production of gastric acid.
Adults: Take 1 tablet 3 times a day with meals, or as professionally prescribed.Children under 12 years: As professionally prescribed. Always read the label. Use only as directed. If symptoms persist see your healthcare professional.
Each tablet contains:Potassium chloride65mg(elemental potassium34.1mg)Iron phosphate15mg(elemental iron5mg)each tablet contains lactose250mg
P.C.I.P. may interact with certain other medications your patients may be taking. Iron may decrease the absorption and efficacy of some medications. P.C.I.P. should be administered at least 2 hours apart from methyldopa, carbidopa, levodopa, thyroid hormone, penicillamine, tetracyclines, quinolones and bisphosphonates.
